If you're anything like me, as a mom, I love to keep little treasures of how my kids' handwriting looks. I love the little handprint things they make me many years for Mother's Day too. But I thought it would be fun to do something different this year. So I gave myself a Mother's Day gift when I had the kids help me make today's project! ;)

I picked up this wooden rolling pin at the store...and decided I wanted each of my kids to write their names on it, in their own handwriting. So, here's what I did:

I had them each write their names on the rolling pin in pencil. (They actually each wrote their name on paper first to see how large they wanted to do, it before writing on the rolling pin.)

 Then I took my wood burning tool (that my husband gave me as a gift awhile back and I was dying to use!), and traced (burned) over each of their names. These little wood burning tools are really inexpensive and I'm excited to try out a few other projects I have in mind. It does take a little practice though, so I suggest getting some scrap wood and playing with it a bit, before using it on your actual project.

 I even love that one is spelled wrong. (My three year old's name) Ha!

After I burned their names in, I erased any pencil marks that were still showing, and then added the year on one end of the rolling pin.

And wala! That was it! I was done!

Overall, I love the way this fun rolling pin came out. Perfect little DIY Mother's Day gift and didn't really take too long or cost much either! (Under $10 and half hour to an hour depending how fast you are with your wood burning.) Definitely something I will keep forever! Yay!
