Soooo Soft Sugar Cookies!

I don't know about you...but those sugar cookies you find at the grocery store that are sooooo soft and thick are to die for! I avoid buying them often though, because...well, so I don't eat them. Ha! My husband and kids love them too! Other than those, I am not a big fan of sugar cookies. I have made them from scratch my whole life and thought they were...ok, but nothing great.

UNTIL...I made these! They turn out soooo soft and thick and are YUMMY!!! I got the recipe from a recipe book my mom compiled when I was in high school. She asked friends and family to contribute their favorite recipes and she put it all together and gave it to us when we graduated I think? Anyway, there is a recipe in there that was submitted by a family friend (who we lovingly refer to as Auntie Donna). :) It is for SOFT SUGAR COOKIES and is soooo good! BUT you'll never guess what the secret ingredient is!!! Miracle Whip! Yep! I promise. They are YUM!

Here's the proof! LOL

Try it! (BTW I have used Hellmans or whatever I have on hand, but I like the overall flavor of the cookies best with the real brand name Miracle Whip best.)

Sooo Soft Sugar Cookies

3/4 cup margarine
1 1/2 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 Tablespoon vanilla
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup Miracle Whip
1 tsp baking powder
About 6 1/2 cups flour (enough for soft dough, but not sticky.)

Combine all ingredients and roll into a 1/4 inch dough. Cut into shapes. Bake at 375 degrees for 5 minutes, no more. Frost.

(Sometimes I roll it out a tad thicker and bake a tad longer. The cookies won't really look done when you pull them out because you want to pull them out right before they start browning on the edges and top.)

Hope you enjoy!

I just made these sugar cookies from your blog. Thanks for the recipe. I can't say from experience if they are the best ever, since I am not eating sweets but Chris thought they were fine, he likes sugar cookies with frosting so once I put frosting on them I am sure he will love them. He has to be my taste tester since I made them in hearts and giving them to my Visiting Teaching sisters.
