Swoosh! It's Game Time with some Family Dunking Fun {and a Delicioso recipe!}

I don't know about your house, but mine has a basketball loving kid! He plays basketball on his school team and has been all about watching the game lately! March has been a great month for him!


Watching the game starts with him, and seems to spread to the rest of the family! Ha! Pretty soon, everyone's involved. I love big families! So...to make it even more fun, we decided to make it a big family event the other night. Complete with some delicious and traditional Mexican favorites and my homemade salsa!  (Keep reading to get the recipe!) Always a hit! BUT...I have been under the weather a bit lately and wasn't up to cooking all day in the kitchen, so I headed to Walmart to pick up some grub for the game.  


Our family loves taquitos and tamales, well...we love almost any Mexican food. AND with some of the allergies in our house, the corn tortillas are perfect for us too! So I picked up some Delimex Chicken Taquitoes and Beef Tamales.

This was the perfect time to pull out some of my homemade salsa too! My kids eat my salsa like it's candy! haha It's crazy how fast it goes around here! I love making fresh salsa and canning it or freezing it, so that we have it on hand anytime! I like freezing it best, because it still tastes like it's fresh out of the garden. So today, I'm going to share my Salsa recipe with you, as well as a couple of other dips that we love.


Basic Salsa Recipe

First, gather your ingredients:

5 medium tomatoes
1 medium onion
1 jalapeno
2-3 medium tomatillos
salt
sugar
chili powder


Now, you're ready and it's really easy, I promise! 
I do it all in my Ninja food processor and I'm done in about 15 minutes tops!

I take my tomatoes and cut them in half and throw them in just like that. 


Next, I take my tomatillos, peel them, and do the same with them as I did with the tomatoes. 



Then, the onion...


I use 1/2 to 1 jalapeno for a little spice, but not so much that my kids won't eat it.



Last thing I do is I add about 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp chili powder, about 1/2 tsp sugar (or sugar substitute), and a tad lime juice or 1-2 drops lime essential oil . Then start chopping...or blending, or whatever you call it when you throw food all together in the food processor. haha 


Taste test it and see what you think. The beauty about making your own salsa is that you get to make it how you want it. If you like a lot of tomatoes, add more. If you want garlic, throw some in. It's your salsa. Make it how YOU like it!


And...now you're ready to take those taquitos and dunk!


 Other variations that you can do with salsa and/or other great dips that we love:
1. Just add sour cream to the salsa!
2. Guacamole (I just cut up and mash a few avocados and throw in a bit of lime juice and salsa and a tad salt. So good!
3. And Queso!

Like I said, this Salsa recipe is the perfect recipe to go with Delimex® Frozen Taquitos! So so good!

No matter what we dunk our taquitos and tamales in, we love our Mexican food! And love spending time as a family watching The Game!

That salsa looks tasty! I've never seen a recipe where you use both regular tomatoes and tomatillos. I have a question about the jalapeno pepper. Do you remove the seeds before you add it to the food processor? Or leave them in so you get some of the heat from the seeds. Thanks!

Thanks! And for your question Aliza...I removed half of the seeds this time, but other times I keep them all. Guess it depends on my mood. haha It seems when I remove them all, you can't even taste the jalapeno, but that's my opinion. I like just a little bite. ;)
