Red, White, and Blue Patriotic Apron skirts (Basics in Sewing)

Happy Almost End of May! That's definitely a reason to celebrate around our house, because all of the end of school hullabaloo is ALMOST over! AND I get to have my kids home with me more soon! I also get to start thinking about fun summer things coming up, one of those being family fun on The Fourth of July! I love love LOVE the Fourth of July. In fact, that's the date my hubby actually wanted to get married on. Wouldn't that have been great?! Fireworks for you anniversary every year! Ha! We didn't get married that day in the end, but it's still a favorite holiday at our house!

So, today I want to share with you these super cute Fourth of July...Red, White, And Blue...Patriotic Apron Skirts I made for my girls. They love them and had so much fun playing in them already! I love how cute they are with the little attached aprons.

I used different fabrics, but the same idea for all three of them. I just cut a long rectangle of fabric to use as the main part of the skirt and hemmed one long side side. (The dimensions that I cut the fabric depended on how long I wanted the skirt on each girl and their own sizes.) The other long side I sewed along the edge, leaving room to thread some elastic through the length of it. Then I cut out the shape of the apron and gathered and sewed the top of it onto the main skirt fabric. I sewed it directly in the middle of the long rectangle. So easy! Next, I sewed the rectangle short ends together, so that it was now a large circle. From there all you need to do is add the elastic waistband on top. That's it! Very basic.

They turned out adorable and perfect for some summer fun and to wear on the Fourth of July!

I let all three girls choose between fabrics I already had on hand, so they all felt like their skirt was made to order just for them! Love!

For this one, a red handkerchief  used as the main fabric made it adorable! I love the look!

Now, the question is, what do you think? If I made one for me, would I just look like I was doing the dishes? lol OR would it be just as fun? haha

Realizing that, I'd already decided on no sewing machine next year... or serger... or dress form... or suitcase of supplies - just hand and finishing work but... my site
