"Wassail." is my answer.
"What?"
"Wassail!"
Blank look follows, still unsure of the word I just said.
lol
Wassail. It's a traditionally known holiday punch that has apple cider as the main ingredient. It's soooo yummy and makes your whole house smell heavenly!
If you haven't tried it, you should! Some of my kids even prefer it to hot chocolate. (And I think it's a lot better for them too!)
We make a big pot of it and keep it warm sometimes all day. What's leftover, goes back in the apple cider jug and into the fridge. Then it's available to heat up one mug at a time the rest of the week. Perfect for winter time and any cold day. Warms you right up! And again, it's sooo good!
There are so many different variations to the recipe and sometimes I switch it up a little, but for the most part I keep it simple.
My Wassail Recipe:
1 gallon Apple Cider (Brand of your choice...some are more tart that others...)
1/2 can of frozen concentrated 100% orange juice (don't add water)
(OR about 4 drops Wild Orange essential oil and about 2 cups water)
Optional: Same amount of frozen pineapple juice
1/4 cup Organic coconut palm sugar (OR regular brown sugar)
3-4 cinammon sticks
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
(Optional: add fresh orange slices floating in top of wassail)
Heat on stovetop in large pot until warm and ready to drink. Dilute with water if it is too "strong" for you. Add more cinnamon or cloves if that is too "weak" for you.
So easy! Serve with a fun treat or enjoy by itself.
Give it a try on a cold day or with friends and family this holiday season!
(Warning...you may run out though! haha)
