Every spring and summer, as the fruit prices start to drop, I start thinking about making jam. (If you've never made it, don't get scared off. I make the really easy, no cooking required,  kind of jam!) Some years, I have tried to make enough to last us throughout the year, but my children make sure it never does! Ha! Instead of having some jam/jelly with their toast, they believe in having a little toast with their jam/jelly. haha

I have made several kinds of jams and jellies over the past few years, but this week I decided to try something a bit different! I was shopping at Walmart in Bentonville, AR this past weekend and stopped by an in store demonstration on Saturday that they held there, with the new Kool-Aid Easy Mix. I love how easy it is to make! All you have to do is to just add water. You can make it in a pitcher OR a glass. And it can make 6 quarts or basically 3 pitchers.

So, I picked up these three yummy flavors and I decided to use Kool-Aid Easy Mix as one of the main ingredients for making jam!

Yep, you heard me right! I said I was using it to make jam. AND...It made it even easier to make, PLUS just think of the possibilities and all the flavors that you can make! AND you don't have to wait for all of those fruit prices to drop this spring, to make this kind of jam. It was really fun to try and turned out tasting great!

I like to make freezer jam, because, well...because we love the taste and I love how easy it is to make! AND...you don't even have to cook! All you need is about three-four ingredients and about ten minutes. Seriously! That's it!

So, here we go!

Kool-Aid Jam (or Jelly) Recipe

Ingredients:
1/2 cup Kool-Aid Easy Mix
2 cups Water
8 Tablespoons Instant Pectin
Optional: 1 cup Mashed Fruit

First thing you need to do, is to mash up your fruit if you are choosing to make jam. If you're a jelly kind of person, who doesn't love the chunks of fruit in it, then just skip this part. For me, I love the chucks that you find in jam, so I added 1 cup mashed strawberries to mine.

(Now, normally, you would also add sugar to your fruit, BUT the sugar is already included in the Kool-Aid Easy Mix, so that's one less ingredient and one less step that you will need!)

Take your mashed fruit, and add your 2 cups water, and  1/2 cup Kool-Aid Easy Mix together. Then stir. Add in your pectin one Tablespoon at a time, and whisk for three minutes.

Okay, so this might sound crazy, but that's it! Yep! Truly!
Now just pour your jam into containers (that are good to go in the freezer)
and let them sit for 30 minutes.

I love making freezer jam! Can you see why? SO easy and tastes so fresh and good! AND it keeps in the refrigerator for a week or more and in your freezer for a few months.

If you like yours a little thicker like a jelly, just add more pectin.

So fun to make AND so easy that your kids can even do it for you! Ha! What's your favorite Kool-Aid flavor? Give it a Try!
